HOA Summer Meeting Follow-up (Copy)

Thanks to all neighbors that attended the virtual HOA meeting last evening. We have gotten some very positive feedback, so we will plan for another virtual meeting to recap the year in the Jan/Feb timeframe. Two items generated some discussion, so we wish to recap here. SORRY, I FORGOT TO PUBLISH THIS AFTER THE LAST MEETING.

Forestry Restoration:

All of SE Minnesota and the coulee region of Wisconsin is experiencing a fungal invasion of sorts. The Blue Spruce, Black Hills Spruce and Red Pine are particularly vulnerable to Rhizosphera “Needle Cast”. Due to the very wet Spring and Summer in 2019 it has been a tough year. Once 60-70% of the tree is involved it will die. If not removed, the fungus will spread rapidly. Nearby trees will get infected, even if they look okay right now. The link below provides some excellent information:

If you wish to plant evergreens for winter interest or as a boarder, consider Norway Spruce or White Pine, they are resistant. Also, Willows are showing signs of Blight, again due the wet weather and lack of air circulation.

Both the Willows and the Spruces can be saved. Spruces will need two treatments, two years apart and pruning to increase air circulation, elimination of dead or dying trees and avoid getting them wet with sprinklers will help.  We have walked the neighborhood with Eric from Maier Tree. He will give HOA members a discount on treatment. Please look for additional information from him; we instructed him to leave details in your mailbox if abatement/mitigation is needed on your property.

Mailboxes:

If you have a tired looking mailbox, we have a plan. The HOA will buy as many mailboxes as requested and have them painted to match the existing ones. Just use the “Contact HOA” button on the homepage of the website (https://bouldercreekmn.org/) and request one. The request will be honored throughout the month of September. We will then generate a work order and ask the original vendor for a quote. We expect each new mailbox will cost about $40, give or take. Once the new mailboxes arrive, please use house number stickers that match the existing black italic font as closely as possible. We want to maintain the unified look throughout our lovely sub-division.
